How to Benefit Most from Your Massage
- Avoid eating a heavy meal prior to your massage.
- Allow adequate time before and after your appointment so that you do not feel rushed.
- Please ask if you would like a reminder call or email to remind you of your appointment.
- Plan extra time on your first visit for discussing your intake
information (you may download this form from the "Policies & Rates" section or fill it out when you arrive).
- If your goal is to
relieve pain, I will use orthopedic assessment strategies in order to ascertain
the most appropriate techniques for your session.
- Communication is essential:
- Let me know if anything bothers you, including my pressure, the choice or volume of music, the room temperature, etc.
- Discuss
any questions or apprehensions you may have both prior to and during the session.
- Remember that this is your massage – you have the right at all times to ask me to stop what I am doing.
- Let me know if you would enjoy the addition of hot stones.
- You will be draped during treatment. I respect your privacy and will only expose areas of your body as I work on them (for some treatments, it is easiest if the client wears shorts, for other treatments, it does not matter).
- If relaxation is your goal, you may benefit more from a quiet massage; but, if we are dealing with specific pain issues, on-going communication will be necessary.
- Focusing on your breath may enhance relaxation, especially if your mind is racing with thoughts that have nothing to do with your massage.
- When I am finished, take your time, and get up slowly (I schedule adequate time so that you will not need to rush).
- Hydrate your body - drink plenty of water on the day of your massage.
